As a psychiatrist, I can prescribe medication. However, over more than ten years of evaluating and treating thousands of people in hospitals, psychiatric clinics, and private practice, I have recognized the significant limitations of psychiatric medications and the problems associated with using them. When you come to see me, I will spend time with you, clarifying the issues you want to address and dedicating time to helping you find solutions that are right for you, usually without medication. If you are already taking psychiatric medication, I will carefully evaluate whether or not it is appropriate and, if it isn’t, help you stop taking it safely. If you do need psychiatric medication, I will prescribe it cautiously (“First, do no harm”) and help you stop taking it as soon as it is no longer necessary.
